It often depends on the style of the house and the situation for their use. Double hung windows often don't have the room for egress in the popular sizes. Casement windows are usually the most expensive and tend to be better as a wood window rather than vynil. Sliders are the cheapest, but usually need to be way wider than tall to slide nicely.

I'm not a pro, but awning windows can be good if you need to open them in the rain, and the new generation of louvre windows are widely used in the tropics. Just adding to Fred's advice.

Hello melanieswitzer, homeowners often ask us that question. The simplest way to address it is to consider two things: operation style and architectural style. Casements can be operated by one hand, which makes it ideal for places requiring reach such as over the kitchen sink. Sliders, with their clean, sleek look, are popular in contemporary homes.
