Best kitchen bin?

HouzzAUAugust 13, 2014
Pick which bin you think is the best solution for rubbish in your kitchen...
Freestanding bin
Triple sliding IKEA bins
Double tilting bins
Sideways drawer
4-Way recycling bins
Pull-out drawer

I picked 1 - reason - I do not have to clean the inside of the cupboards over and over again- the inside would get smelly and dirty over time -
when the cans are kept inside the cupboards you will have to clean 6 faces of the inside cupboards, top bottom and sides + 1 external face then the bins

I have #6 and like it;) All trash cans get dirty and smelly after time, so spritz them down every once in awhile;) I use Febreeze scented trash can liners too;)

True about the cans Margo - but when the cans are kept inside the cupboards you will have to clean 6 faces of the inside cupboards, top bottom and sides + 1 external face then the bins - I rather not do that.

I agree Margo. I don't want an ugly trash can sitting out in my kitchen.

I have a lot of equipment and china so don't want to sacrifice cupboard space.

I really like #2 and will try to replicate it in my next kitchen. Looks so tidy - but takes up teh most space of any option.

#1...but in a small closet just off the kitchen. Don't want stinky garbage in my cupboards.

Margo - make the bin beautiful - get one designed by Philippe Starck , one that plays your favorite music, get one gold painted - if gold is your thing, best of all - Design one and sell the design for millions - else - clean the cupboards - every week - enjoy life.

Double tilting bins. The angle seems convenient to get bags in and out, and the compartment looks easy to clean because it's paneled in back and not deep.

I like the double tilting. When I'm prepping I keep a 5 qt. bowl lined with produce bags on the counter. Everything goes in there and gets twisted up for disposal in the bin under the counter, or, more likely straight to the outside can.

I'm with Manias on this. While it might not be the most visually pleasing to have the can in view, it's the most sanitary. And what could be more important in a kitchen?

The tilting looks the best, but freestanding does seem more sanitary. Anything but those cylindrical cans, though! They hold like two things until they get full again lol

#6 with the 2 large bins is my pick. I'm pleased to say that most of my clients are keen to make good use of the fabulous recycling services offered by our local governments. A bin system like this works well....1 for rubbish & 1 for recycling.

I have #6 and even with 2 small children it doesn't get that dirty. Are ya'll playing basketball with your trash, is that why the inside gets nasty?

None of the above. I vote for covered cans that slide into a cabinet. This gives the hidden look of tucked-away cans and the cleanliness of cans with covers. You won't have to constantly clean all sides of the inside cabinet if a little care is taken not to splatter all over the place when putting trash in the cans.

I actually use a better system than that showed on these photos with lids and cover when closed...
