Need help determining ground cover for yard zen garden

Sand? Pea gravel? Color that works best? Where to fin the more traditional white sand. Any advice welcome.

That's tough not having any pics to go by, location, or size. But for a Zen garden, consider smooth, black stones. That's always nice. Don't forget to consider the upkeep involved for that perfectly raked sand.
