Dont give up any inch of storage a less than $100 dollar solution - a couple of hinges that lock upward at your local hard ware store and either a matching left over or even a matching SS if your refrig is SS or color to cooridate with the Refrig will draw your eye up as a column - This is my own kitchen - note the notches around the hinges for the door - simple fix = local harware store sells iron wood in my case walnut edging that I will finish this off and this cabinet holds all those trays and cutting boards that are awkward and tough to store elsewhere!

Or try A framed out solution matching your cabinetry - then at Home Depot they have various Metals preforated with some nice designs that if you really feel you need the ventilation for they could do the trick - I'll try to find a picture of what I'm talking about - the other option is what I've done but have a handy man cut out and finish an notch that becomes the hand pull to open it - this hole should provide the ventilation you need.
