42 inch venthood with warming shelves above a 36 in 6 burner stovetop.

I am designing a kitchen with a 36 in stovetop and would like to put a 42 in wide by 18 inch tall vent hood above with 15 inch warming racks below. With 15 inch shelf above, this will total 48 inches which is the height of the upper cabinets on each side of the hood. Would it look ok to take the 42 inch wide stainless steel backsplash all the way down to the stove top? ( Since the stove top is only 36 in wide) There will be 30 inches of counter space on each side of the stove top. Or should I just leave the backsplash with pull down shelves end at the 15 inches and tile below to match backsplash?

I have a similar, but not identical, situation. There is stainless from hood to stovetop. It looks clean and uncluttered.
