Glass tile accent in a shower with a niche and a window

Michaela LAugust 26, 2014
We have a bathroom under construction that has a tub, a niche, and a window. I plan to tile this in a 4x16 white subway tile, horizontal and offset, but I want to add a white glass accent tile for subtle sparkle and interest. The thing is, I don't want to make this bathroom too busy given that there is already a window and a niche, so I'm not sure where to place the accent or how much of it is too much.

Given this layout, would you...

...put the accent tile on the back of the niche alone?
...add a 3-4" horizontal strip between the niche and the tub?
...or a horizontal running strip directly under the windowsill?
...or some other option?

What is the other tile you are using? Is accent tile even necessary? Sometimes is nicer to create a square on the back of the niche rather than the more common straight line.or even a small or large nichehttp://www.houzz.com/photos/1122166/Historic-Schoolhouse-Loft-traditional-bathroom-chicagohttp://www.houzz.com/photos/41737/New-build-Pierrefonds-contemporary-bathroom-other-metro

The other tile is a 4x16 white glossy subway (Florida Tile Streamline), a bit dull on its own (IMO) so I want to add some sparkle.

I love the subway tile you have chosen as it is unusually long... In a modern grid pattern is an accent tile necessary at all (or if you have a small niche for shampoos etc, tile the wall there)

Stack the tiles for sure. Place the sparkly stuff on the back of the niche only. Keep,it simple but fun

Is the niche for the tub or will you have a tub/shower combo w/ the upper niche working for that. I see several niches w/ the studs in there so I can't tell.
