I want to modernize my family room and take it out of the 70's
Not want I should do I want a warm and cozy look
But want to keep the navy blue leather furniture.

Blue, as in your navy seating, is a cool color. You'll have to pop in a lot of warm contrast to warm things up. Your biggest change will be removal of the popcorn walls and rustic paneling.

popcorn walls have to go., get rid of the panelling, The fireplace wall needs an overhaul and that ledge along the wall needs to go.Maybe stackstone could cover the wall if you have the budget for that

I agree w a new floor, but think that rather than push the restart button w your walls, you might paint them all charcoal grey - fireplace included. Removing the florals, and adding a new ceiling fixture and shots of cream and a richer red ( you appear to have cranberry now?) in your accessories would give you a cleaner palette, and make the room appear bigger.

We just took ours out of the 70s. How much money do u want to spend? I would take it down to studs, re insulate, drywall, etc. demo the brick off the wall. We did that and just kept it as the surround and it made a huge difference. Take the faux beams off the ceiling and drywall. Put in hardwood or laminate. Pick a large area rug that goes with your furniture then pick the paint color from one of the colors in the rug.

The fireplace wall has too much stone so what ever you do make sure you break this wall up and do not put so much stone!
