Advice Needed with Living Room Layout

This living room is just off our kitchen. It is a wide room and I need suggestions on how to layout the furniture- am planning to purchase new furniture. The pictures shown are from before we bought the house, the previous owners had a table set up as well. We won't as we have a separate dining room. The island from the kitchen backs on to the room. As well we have a piano on the side wall the tv is located in (the last picture shows the piano set up since we moved in). We are a family of four, with two young kids so want to have environment not overly formal.

Could you mount the television above the fireplace and free up some floor space? Not sure if that wall space is large enough.

this could be one idea for furniture placement and a media center for the TV to fill in the large wall space.
Now, the piano?

I was thinking of moving our current tv down to the basement for a 'man cave' and possible putting a corner cabinet where the TV currently is now and store a smaller tv. I'd want a cabinet that would close and also house a stereo etc. I'd rather not have it above the fireplace. And I don't want the focus to be the tv so I think the large media cabinet won't suit my needs. My neighbour did a large piece of art on that tall wall- it would be between the piano and tv. It was a tall piece that fit in between the two.

That is amazing anne dee. You found a room that had the fireplace and windows as amymc has. I like it!

Thoughts on a sofa that faced the fire place and two armchairs on right side parallel to sofa (chairs side be side), then maybe another chair to left side of fireplace? What do I do by window over to right of room?

Is that the area of the front door?

No it's not. The door is just a side door out to the backyard.

my last comment didn't seem to appear. Thanks Anne for the idea, but we just put a ping pong table in the basement. Was thinking of two smaller chairs and a table in between for doing a puzzle etc....and place on side wall with window. Just not sure if it would be too crowded. Any interior designers in the Caledon area that do consults on furniture layout etc?

What if you did Anne Dee's layout and then floated the piano in the corner to the right of the fireplace.

I think that the type of piano that is has to be on an inside wall so that it does not get the heat/cold from an outside wall. I would try anne dee's photo and place the piano on the wall opposite of the fireplace. I can't really see, but maybe closer to one end or the other.

Oh, sorry. Is that the kitchen wall? Maybe on the wall it is but closer to the kitchen.
