Mixing Modern and Contemporary: Should I Update my Dining Chairs?

I have a handmade dining table, with bar height chairs that I modified by cutting down the legs and painting to match my farmhouse style table. The vibe in my living room is mostly contemporary, and I am trying to weave a bit more modern in it while keeping with a homey feel. I love the look of these clear, modern chairs paired with a more rustic/contemporary table in the Houzz photo posted. Do you think I should swap my chairs with chairs like this to add more pop? Or, keep with the chairs I have currently?

Dana, I love that you worked with what you had to put together this room. I like the idea of the chairs although if you are looking for a pop I would suggest bringing in artwork that can bring in color and match the more contemporary style of the room as well. For one of my clients who had a lot of dark wood in her house we incorporated bold colors and a contemporary resin surface to brighten up her space and it worked beautifully.

I love the idea of the acrylic chairs, add sheep skin to make them comfy, and some colorful art to add color!

Thanks for the comments! I do like the idea of adding some more color on the walls, although I'd have to find a new spot for the photography which I do love. Its hard to see, but there is also a bench that I built on the far side of the table. I could paint the bench a bright color or add more colorful pillows as well?

Well I went for it and I think I like the results! What do you think? A bright painting, sheepskin throw on the bench, and modern vase to replace my half dying plant are still in queue but I love how the chairs changed this space!

Go for it. But on ends go a bigger fabric chairs. Pier One carries nice ones. Also ck IKEA for side chairs, nice and won't break the bank.

Also with pic on wall. Move closer together no more than 3" between then get 2 more and stack them. They are too small for that wall. Chandelier should be bigger 24" IKEA sells great looks not expensive.

I wouldn't use a runner, and change out centerpiece to something with color. Even a big silver bowl fill with green apples.

Awesome! The chairs really updated the look. IKEA has small sheepskins that you could use on the end chairs and add a pillow with color maybe. I agree with others either a bigger painting with more color or bring the pictures together. Ikea also has some great drum lamps that might be the pop of color needed.
