Exterior Paint Colors - Craftsman Cottage; want more contrast
1927 cottage sits < 50ft from street on 50ft wide lot facing west. Most homes on same side of street are brick. Opposite side of street is mostly siding in yellow or beige tones. Considering darker teals for siding contrasting with lighter gray/green/blue porch and accents with white trim. Leaning to green more than blue. Sherwin-Williams paint most likely. Can you help?

DeWitt Architects Nice bungalow.

This discussion is very similar to yours:

On our bungalows we use cool colors as minor accent and we don't use cool whites. We have used warm/green/gray for siding along with warm/brown/gray along with the yellows.

I think many others on Houzz are better at direct color matching than myself so I will let them answer.

Remember to consider testing colors in large areas with them next to each other in sunlight and shadow to understand how they look and mix together. What a lot of people don't understand is how much adjacent colors change each other.

I am glad you are going for it with multiple colors. That is the best way to show off a bungalow.

sbrayr Thanks so much for the tips. Love my home too but need to show it off better.

Bond Girl The basis for Craftsman is blending into the environment -- back to nature and simplicity. So I'm having a hard time thinking teal. If you are headed in the green direction, how about olive or even a forest green? Whatever you do, punch up your details with a drastically different color, and it would be great if you could continue the slate from your walk up onto your portico entry step and landing. With that rusty red fireplace, I'd also love to see that tone brought into the body of the house -- maybe the door.

DeWitt Architects I agree but be bold. It is how the overall palette looks together that counts. We have even used salmon siding and brown trim and deep voilet accents and it worked great.
