Lopsided bookcase?
May 11, 2012 in Photo Questions
If I have a large open space to the left of the fireplace and a window to the right if I build in shelves on the left will that look lopsided?

I think there are things you can do to balance the space.... You could build the bookcase to the left of the fireplace the same size as the right. If you want to build it bigger, the items you place in the space can help balance things out.

Yes, I agree with Chandani. Creating balance will be what makes it work. You could install shelves on both sides to the height of the window. Then on the other side use a mirror, art, collection to balance the window. You could also treat the fireplace and shelving on the left side as one unit with the mantel extended all the way across.

Do you have pictures?

As other have mentioned, it is what you put in the shelving units that can bring balance to the area. Does it feel off-balance now?
