What size is the bench? Can it fit without the front door hitting it when opening?

Hi. Because the door is as close as it is to the wall I think that adding a bench or some other furniture is not going to do what you would like it to. Installing a new surface material to the wall would protect the wall and add a lot of punch to it too. Wood can be used to cover the sheet rock and does not need to be costly. Barn wood planking is available in a number of finishes and thicknesses. There are also veneer wall coverings which are nearly as thin as wall paper but are still authentic, not a photo image.

Consider a bench with closed storage underneath.
