Thanks, Cynthia. I was thinking of putting armless sofa on the counter side, and then the ottoman to make an "L" but put a side table on the corner. I'm still iffy on it because the counter would be higher than the armless sofa and I think that's just asking for trouble. What do you think?

You'd be better to put the armless sofa on the back wall. Don't put a side table in the corner. Would the ottoman be the same height/style as the armless sofa? If so, then it would make a good "return" to form the L against the counter wall. You'd want the seats to be about 19 to 20" high (standard dining height) or you'll need to have a lower table. Does this help?

Yeah, thanks to both. If I went round, the ottoman would be counterproductive, unless I get a round table that raises/lowers to coffee table height then nesting stools.

If I go banquette, I was thinking of doing the armless sofa on the back wall, with the ottoman against the counter wall, then a rectangular table.

I'll see what table options I have here in Canada.

Does anyone have suggestions for nesting stools? Something that has design and character when not used?
