Need help with great room

Just starting to design this great room. Trying to figure out whether I should go with a plain color rug, or bold pattern rug. With color or more neutral tones? I have 2 armchairs (matching with sectional) and neutral wood coffee table ordered and waiting to arrive. The house when we bought it is more traditional style, but I'm trying to capture a soft, cozy, contemporary look for the room. Thanks!
