Love the dark colour on the wall. You should consider putting drapery panels That go to the floor on the windows as well as an area rug.

Love the hearth. In fact, the entire room looks great. I would lower the art over the fireplace (about 4 inches), and remove the vases. Also, lower the frames over the sofa -- they should be about 5-7 inches above the sofa (in your case, I'd just lower them as much as I could without revealing the existing nail holes). I think you need a bit of colour -- robins egg blue or turquoise would look great. And finally, an area rug.

As for an area rug, don't be afraid to get something with a subtle pattern.

@hatetoshop Agree with you totally. This room is begging for some color, especially for that rug. But nail holes are so easily erased with a little spackle and paint. ( Always save a little paint in a can identifying the right room. I have so many little cans I'd be lost without those labels.) And I love turquoise.

Flopsycat1, you're smart to keep a bit of the paint for these jobs. I don't often do that, so I always try to get the art right the first time!
