Was wanting to order (8) of these but need them to be the same type of wood and finish--possible for the 36x6x3?

No problem - we will make them all out of the same beam and finish them together. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Also wondering the size of the metal support rods....thickness for drilling

I'm attaching a copy of the installation instructions so you can see the back side of the shelves. We predrill and router the holes for you. For six inch wide shelves we use a 4" invisible shelf bracket that has a rod diameter of 1/2".
