thanks so much! I'm concerned about the repair history & availability of parts. i know the high end appliances have higher repair history & cost.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that.

The parts that commonly go bad on ranges, like thermostats and glow plugs, aren't much more than they are for other more basic products. Ranges aren't as trouble-prone as dishwashers or refrigerators. The Professional models are usually built pretty well otherwise . . . you'll never have to replace your burners or grates.

Parts are pretty available for most American-made products, and a lot of the parts you don't see actually come from Europe. The Germans, Italians and Spaniards all make valves that we use in our better products.

We own this range and have had nothing but problems. Some of them relatively small - clock/timer went out. Other issues a little bigger - if you turn down the oven heat during baking, you run a 50/50 chance of it turning off completely without notice. We had a repairman out several times while it was still under warranty and got the little stuff replaced, but the larger problems persist. I would not recommend this product, the quality is just not worth the price of the equipment. Either choke down the Viking/Wolf price tag or sacrifice the aesthetic and get a more reliable GE, etc. By the way, we've also had problems with a Fisher/Paykel hood we bought to go with the range, so it's not just a fluke...
