Am I making a big mistake ? Appreciate any suggestions :)
We are in the demolition process of a major kitchen remodel involving taking down 2 walls thus going from a tiny galley to a long U shape. longest running walls runs North to South, kitchen floors will be tiled and be 340 sq. ft. This will be very light/airy opening to a great room with original medium stained oak wood floors.
I am at the point where I MUST order cabinet & granite for counter and island. I thought I wanted to go with a dark walnut/espresso type stained cabinet and a light granite counters/island but....When I look at the beautiful kitchen photos on this site, it seems that 90% have white, not dark cabinets. Should I change direction and instead choose to have white cabinets ?
I haven't remodeled in many years and am out of touch. My formal dining area will be part of the great room so don't need to worry about that.
I already ordered stainless steel appliances. My home was built in 1962, single story SoCa ranch, approx. 1900 sq. ft.,8 ft. ceilings, with lots of windows. My taste leans more traditional than modern.
This is costing $$$ so want to get it right. No pictures to attach since all demolished. Thank you !!!!!
petlovermarcie Thanks for asking. We ended up going with white cabinets and really LOVE how the entire kitchen came out. No regrets with the cabinets, appliances, backsplash, granite, wood floors. Here are 2 pictures. One taken now and one taken before we moved anything back in the house.
feeny Beautiful job! Dark cabinets can be wonderful, but that's a pretty big kitchen to do all dark. The white is much more open and cheerful. I'm so glad you changed course.
Cancork Floor Inc. Good choice! This is a modernized version of a traditional country kitchen! Lovely job! So glad you went with the white. Dark is on it's way out (for a while). White always looks fresh and clean!
petlovermarcie Thanks.....we are REALLY pleased. I was unsure about flooring too (combination tile and wood or all wood) and we went ALL hardwood. I'm really happy with that decision too.We already had hardwood before taking the walls down. I think it would have looked choppy with tile and wood. With all wood it has such a nice flow. One of those rare occassions when you actually feel like you made the RIGHT decisions!
