Have you looked at fiberglass doors ? Because of the construction process for fiberglass, you can get much more interesting shapes, textures and details. Aluminum doors are formed by pressing sheets of metal into a very very very basic ( and cheap looking) forms, but fiberglass can offer you more. They even have painting techniques that can mimic wood grain and some even have a wood texture. They will be more costly then alum. though. I was comparing a fiberglass door to an actual Fir door and the Fir door ended up being less expensive for me (local Vancouver maker) so investigate your options fully.
