What kind of indoor tree is this? Was it chosen for growing well with little natural light?

Hi there. That is a Bamboo tree. It was provided by a company called Ambius - http://www.ambius.com/. I have asked them what made them decide on the bamboo. Once they get back to me, I'll post another reply. Thanks!

Here's the explanation that came from Ambius' Denise Eichmann: The bamboo was selected for its vertical linear structure which allowed for its placement within the narrow confines of the staircase opening from ground level through upper level. Bamboo are not low light plants, in fact they perform best in very well lit areas. The reflection of light from the bright surfaces of the staircase allowed light from above to wash the upper foliage of the bamboo. Thanks for your question!
