granite or quartz

the store/granite store sales person says that the fireplace surrounds are granite, labradorite, i tried to say it was quartz and they looked confused. is it Granite? I would jave to buy the whole slab to do the fireplace and that would get very expensive. can you clarify? I would like to only purchase what I need. thanks....

The supplier we purchased the material from called it a granite, Labradorite Jade. http://pietrafina.com/online-inventory/granite/labradorite-jade/ is a link to the supplier's website. Try looking for a remnant which is a left over from a different job, they are usually a better price compared to a full slab.
