I am building and will be having a back door with a mud room. This area is 5 feet wide by 8 feet long do you think that is wide enough for a bench area for the kids stuff ect..... I also plan on putting in a door with a large window and side light to get as much natural light in this space since it is facing north. ??????

8' x 5' as mud room will probably not allow you to have the bench (unless it will have a washer dryer combo stacked)

well i have a 8x8 room off of the enterenceway that is my washer/dryer room with a toilet and sink + cupboards, and a 4x4 closet and then an area at the bottome of the stairs "landing" . So i am just conserned about the width of the enterence way if 5 feet is wide enought for a bench and have enough comfortable space to walk by it ..... a bench seat is around 1.5 feet and that leaves @ 3.5 feet of floor space.

If you put your doors (on both ends) close to one side of the mud room you should have plenty of room to have your bench area and still be able to pass by. The standard bathroom is 5 ft. wide and leaves room for a 2 ft deep vanity. Maybe that will help you visualize it.

If the mud room doesn't include washer or dryer, then you will have plenty of space for benches, coat storage, and window.

Use as much vertical space as possible. Go all the way up with your cabinets.
Mud Room 1
Should be fine.
Mud Room 2
Hope that helps. Charmean Neithart
