Need advice on kitchen floor tile that looks like wood or slate?
August 11, 2012 in Design Dilemma
Trying to make decision for easy care but nice looking kitchen floor. Can't use real wood so my choices are: TILE that looks like wood or looks like slate. My kitchen has white shaker style cabs, black quartz counters and will get white subway tile for bksplash, I think, depending on flooring. I don't want something that will look like a patchwork quilt if I choose the slate looking tile. I am so confused and can't make a decision. Anybody use the woodlooking tile and have regrets? Does it chip easy? The slate tile seems more forgiving but I'm thinking it might be too "Tuscany" style....I'd appreciate any help. thank you

Hi -

Wood look porcelain is amazing and, like most porcelain is nearly indestructible. Same with the Slate look porcelains. I have attached a few pics.

Porcelain tile that looks like wood is wonderful. We have installed it for numerous clients, & they have nothing but wonderful things to say. It looks so much like wood, yet without the maintenance. Many manufacturers are even making it with a textured surface for depth and slip resistance. If you get it in a colorbody porcelain, which means that the color on the face of the tile runs all the way throughout the tile, it will appear the same color instead of white in case it does chip. A good brand of porcelain tile will rarely chip--they have perfected it over the years. In fact, we sell it much more frequently than ceramic tile.

Check out this manufacturer. They have excellent products & an extensive "wood-like" collection! If you go up to the "USA" tab, many more options will appear.
