Hi! I've emailed Bill Fry, the builder, to see if he can let us know - I'll be back when I find out!

Hi, I'm Rhoda (Bill's wife). On some photos, I try to provide some info, but I see I didn't on this one.

The short answer is Brazilian Teak, also known as Cumaru.

It has taken me quite a while to get my brain around all the wonderful features of HOUZZ - so I'll give you a little tutorial! If you click on the photo, you'll see 2 groups of photos on the right. The first group is a mix of recently added photos by HOUZZ members and the second is the project where the photo resides. Click on the project name and you'll be taken to the project description (which has the floor type) along with all the photos uploaded for that project: http://www.houzz.com/projects/3892/Fine-Home-Remodeling-Los-Altos
I've put similar info on our website for that project, but you won't find that dining room there - http://www.billfryconstruction.com/portfolio/los-altos-home-remodeling/index.html

    best regards,

I should add that Cumaru or Brazilian Teak has advantages and disadvantages. It is an extremely hard wood - great for durability. On the downside, it is more challenging to install as it has a habit of dulling saw blades or splitting while nailing - so expect to pay more for an installation of this type of wood.
