Need help with a kitchen that's too big

I know you think there's no such thing, but because of the way it's decorated, it looks too big = disconnected. It's an eat in kitchen with 36 cabinet doors (a "usual" kitchen has between 16 & 20). The eat in area feels like it's allllll theeeee waaaayyyyy doooowwwnnnn theeerrrrrreeee just because there is nothing cohesive about the two spaces. The kitchen has painted white traditional cabinetry. the eating part has natural oak table, chairs and double french door with side window panels. Should I bring the oak into the kitchen with a furniture-type island or should I include/pull in the dining area by putting raised pannel (white) wainscoting around the dining area.
