How was this archway constructed???
Hi, I absolutely love this feature, could you please tell me how it was constructed & was much involved, Thank you.

sustainable garden design perth We constructed the main frame through the use of old jarrah hardwood railway sleepers bolted together with brackets. The bowls were suspended by drilling a hole through the bottom and using a length of thread and bolts with a plate at the top and bottom to prevent the concrete bowls cracking. The pebbles are suspended using stainless steel wire and drilling through the pebble and crimping the bottom. I hope this helps.

sustainable garden design perth the best place to get the sleepers of that length is mountain movers in Claude St Burswood, Perth. They may be able to arrange freight to Bunbury.

mistaawa Hey Guys, We got our sleepers & have arranged them to give you a sense of what we are trying to achieve. We are looking to construct a triple archway across the front of our home as our front rooms are fairly close to the street & I am trying to create screening. Please advise best way to erect our posts, keeping in mind we live coastal, literally on sand. Cheers :)

sustainable garden design perth Sorry for my late reply I have been on holiday. When putting the sleeper posts in we buried them 600mm into the ground and concreted around the posts. We ran a string line and a laser level to get the exact height of the sleepers matching at the top. This can also be achieved by measuring the same height down from the top of the posts and marking a line for the soil level and then running a string line across the bottom to make sure that each post matches in at the correct height when you concrete it in. We used a lifting hoist to get the upper sleepers into position (these can be seen from the images that I have posted previously and can be hired) We then bolted the upper sleepers to the post using recycled brackets from the railway sleepers. We have also used galvanised brackets in the past.
