The back wall is actually illuminated from the front, not the rear. If you are looking to do a similar detail, but backlight a translucent stone, you must just design access to the light. Depending on the amount of space you have behind the wall, the type of source may vary. If you have a lot of space, say more than 12", you may want to look at using strip fluorescent lights on a spacing where you can't see any lamp imaging. For many pieces of stone I've backlit, the amount of light you get from fluorescents can really make it look good. If you only have a few inches, you should use a backlight like an LED light sheet which can provide even lighting with as little as 1/2" clearance. Even though this should last a very long time, it may go out and need to be maintained. You may have to design in some sort of track (like a sliding door track) and a flexible electrical feed such that you can slide out the light sheet if you need to get to it.
