Hi, the perimeter countertop around the island is solid 1 7/8" mahogany. It is 5/8" thicker than the 1 1/4" Red Revel Granite. The wood countertop is supported by the island legs and apron (you can also see the outlet built into the side of the apron.) The intersection between the wood and stone is tight, but we also use a clear silicone caulk at the joint to prevent crumbs and spills from sneaking down.

Hope that clarifies! Jennifer
