1) I am looking for some advice on another color/colors and patterns to introduce into my apartment. Currently I have a large zebra rug, gray furniture, curtains and pink accents. I just bought a new Banksy canvas print in all pink pictured below and I think that will be enough of the pink for now. I am not sure if I should hang it above the chair where the current pink painting is or if I should put it over the couch.
Some other ideas I have for this room are to place a large mirror over the couch - but in what colors? woodsy? What about lighting? Do i need some floor lamps? what style? what colors? I have this random council table that is not pictured below but sits across from the couch against the other wall blocking the fireplace - for now I can't get rid of it - what should I do with it? Against that same wall is my TAV that sits on the mantle because I can't hang it on the wall (not sturdy enough) so it has to sit on the mantle. What should i do behind that TV on that wall? I was thinking peel off wallpaper - but what color? I was also thinking of buying two zebra heads from anthropologie and putting one on either side of the tv - or doing that and the wall paper. And what should i place on the mantle?
saragita I also was wondering how to incorporate several photos of friends and family into the family room. And lastly, I have an awesome picture that I took and I was thinking of having it made into a canvas as well - and putting in my apartment somewhere. here is the photo:
michigammemom I would caution you from going too overboard with the pink, gray and zebra theme. How about adding some turquoise accessories? Your photo would definitely be a cool addition.
laursiedoone I think your photo is fabulous and definately deserves to be a large canvas or even get put onto digital wallpaper for a whole wall in your apartment?
I agree with michigammemom, blue would balance the pink nicely. Maybe replacing the salmon pink cushions? Personally I would paper the walls in a subtle geometric in a slightly paler version of the curtain (drape) colour to cosy up the space and make it more grown up. Definately no more zebra or animal print, the rug makes a great focal point but any more and you've got a themed room.
Could you place matching large lamps onto simple plinths either side of the armchair in front of the windows to improve mood lighting and add pleasing symmetry?
saragita This is totally awesome advice thank you both! What color would you do in the lamps? and what do you think of the chevron wall paper i posted up above
laursiedoone I like the Chevron paper but it might fight a bit with the rug. How about something like Designers Guild Nabucco Rheinsberg P533-04 Slate, as it's in shades of grey & silver it might be a bit subtler but still have great impact and would look lovely under lamplight. I would get black lamps to tie in with your shelves with rectangle shaped bases and shades to keep with the smart geometrics. I think the play between the restrained geometrics and classic symmetry and the zebra rug and cool art would be great.
