To "hand trowel" or not

Building a new house and having a discussion on wall and ceiling finish. We current have some hand troweled walls, but the contractor wants an arm & a leg to hand trowel our 20+ walls in our hunting trophy room .Are we making a mistake if we don't hand trowel? I know wall treatment is a personal choice, but will the house look really out of date if the walls are a splatter drag finish? Thanks.

Smooth surfaces would be a more timeless choice regardless of style.

I have some troweled walls and I don't blame your contractor for wanting an arm and a leg for doing them...they are a LOTTTTT OF WORK...I. Did my own! Now having said that, I would go with a suade paint from Ralph Lauren. I've done this in an office that had trophy deer heads and an antler chandelier and it was beautiful!
