Installing honeycomb shades before updating my windows

Hi all,

I'm in a winter-is-coming crisis with my 1960s aluminum flimsy windows: Do I rush and change out the windows ($$$) or get honeycomb shades on them with the risk they won't work with the new windows? If you know a way to install the honeycombs in a way that they can be repurposed once I change out the windows for fiberglass or wood windows I'd love any thoughts.

The goal is heat retention and preserving my window savings. I'm probably not ready to commit to changing the windows yet. (And no my house isn't insulated which is the 2nd problem I have to deal with) :)

I'm in Oakland, CA so luckily it doesn't get TOO cold but I still want to save. Thanks!!
