White basebaords be gone!

I don't think I can take much more! We have a beautiful home with all white trim and baseboards. My youngest has Autism and I usually paint the baseboards every year! I don't want to be owned by them anymore. We love dark wood trim and doors but it will cost thousands to replace. Any thoughts on painting a taupe color with maybe a Ralph Lauren glaze in the crevasses? Not too much color and boldness, anything but white! Subtle, subtle, subtle... Thanks.....

HI --- I am assuming keeping the baseboards clean and unchipped is the problem. So when you have them repaired or touched up then put a couple of coats of a clear poly on them and that should protect them. Get the water based kind in a low luster. Ask the paint store , they will know what you need .

No, chipping isn't a problem. I just want nice looking. White just shows too many flaws with kids in the house! It's a constant peeve of mine to look at clean white baseboards and see dust and juice spilled and dirt....

I love black baseboards (even when you don't need to camouflage).

HI -- I understand julie , we put in bigger white baseboards a few years ago and had the same problems . Still working on mine ,doing what I told you to do with yours. Much easier care now.

I love that dark baseboard! I too have white, and they only look really good for about a week after I have painted them. Never would have thought to put clear poly on them!
