Trying to decide on a look for my interior Craftsman-style columns.

Should the column go all the way down, with the glass door cabinet beside it, or should the column rest on top, allowing the cabinet to be bigger. This is a decorative column, so it is not carrying loads from the ceiling. See my Ideabook; "Interior Columns" for more angles. Thanks for your opinions!

Column should go all the way down so it matches the others!

Why waste the space? The column sits on top!

Definitely on top. Though the point where the column meets the top needs to be just so. There are plenty of good examples around.
