Gray or white cabinets? Accent colors. Using stainless appliance and wood floor. A joins Hearth Room. Carry over some theme.

It would help to see pictures, but I would say use white cabinets. Gray can be beautiful, but it is very trendy, and cabinets are not easy to change. You could use gray on the walls, or any color, which is easier to change out later on when you want something different.

You might consider white for upper cabinets and gray for lower. Or, use gray for an island.

A medium gray to dark gray cabinet, your nickel hardware can go either classic with bin pulls or contemporary with the longer slim bars, Calcutta marble for your countertop or pure white corian for a less expensive option and white subway tiles in a herringbone pattern or running bond with a dark gray grout, stainless appliances and any other accent color would look great. Consider under cabinet lighting, you'll love that you included it.

I agree with gray for a more unique look.
