Love the wood

What kind/color of wood is this? I'd like to put this on the exterior of my garage/home. Thanks!

Hello,
Thanks for your question about our project in Mazama (in the North Cascades). The wood siding is clear western red cedar. The stain is a semi-transparent Cabot's stain. I would add that since this project was completed, we have switched over to Sikkens Cetol 1and 23 Plus Premium semi-transparent stain. See attached photo. This photo is from the main house at the same project, and we used the Sikkens Cetol on the current project. I prefer the Cetol since it doesn't have as much pigment as the Cabot's.
By the way, these semi-transparent stain products as require frequent maintenance. Depending on the exposure, re-staining may be necessary every year or every 2-3 years.

What can be done to have the same look on the wood but less maintenance? Thanks!

Sorry, but I do not have a magic answer for your question. If you decide to have exterior stained wood siding, then a maintenance program every 2-5 years (depending on exposure) is part of that decision.
