How does the Quartz finish hold up? I know it's stronger than plaster, but will it still discolor?

Generally, added quartz crystals do make the pool finish harder and far more resistant to fluctuating chemical conditions; plus you get the added benefit of a multitude of color options. However, all plaster options can still be susceptible to some surface problems, especially in the presence of extreme water chemistry conditions. A good website for information on plaster is the National Plasterers Council. http://www.npconline.org/different-surfaces
