Is prefinished or engineered wood flooring better than hardwood flooring?

Annie Thornton Although there are obvious differences between these flooring options, it comes down to personal preference for choosing what to use in your own home. Pre-finished wood can be factory finished wood, which means that it is solid wood that has been finished during production so they can be laid on the spot without any additional finishing. This means it is less of an inconvenience for you to move out all of your things to let the oil finish dry. There is also engineered flooring that falls into this category. This is a thin piece of finished hardwood that is adhered to the top of a non finished piece pf plywood. Traditional hardwood flooring is laid and then finished with a water or oil base finish that can take about ten days to dry. Pre-finished wood usually has more of an even coloring than the natural color variation that comes with finishing hardwood flooring onsite. Another thing to consider is that some pre-finished wood flooring is produced with bevelled edges that some people find attracts more dirt and debris. As far as replacing worn pieces, it is easier to replace individual pieces of pre-finished, but with traditional hardwood you can just refinish your hardwood flooring.
