Need help with lighting for dining room

Our ceiling air conditioner unit is flush mounted in the middle of our dining room. I would like to have chandeliers on either side of it as our table sits 12 or a large rectangle one which may hang from either side of the a/c unit...our taste is contemporary/transitional....help!

Ideally, you would get an air conditioning person in to move the unit to another location as it does not sound ideal to have cold air blowing down in hot food. However, if that is not possible, a pair of the fixture shown below could be lovely. Be sure to check wattage/lumens to be sure you'll have sufficient lighting.

Carolyn's idea is a great one! As an alternate suggestion, you could try two large pendant lights. Not knowing your style, here's a neutral example: [houzz=

We agree with Bobbi P (and also like to rhyme)! Two large pendants may give you more style options as well as an easier and more versatile installation plan. We have thousands of large pendants (http://www.atgstores.com/large-pendants_442.html?linkLoc=topnav), and have selected a few based on your space and style description to help give you ideas. Good luck!

If the unit sticks into the room you add shelves under it with doors flush to the edge of the unit. Then run hardwood 2 x 2 vertically from floor to ceiling with a 2 1/2" open space between. Saw cut the 2 x 2s to allow the doors to open. Add a wall sconce on either side and indirect crown up lights and you've turned an eye sour into a design asset.
