We were told that carpet would be best for the floor in our media room (we are building) but several of the photos on this site show hardwood or laminate?
IS there a professional preference for flooring regarding sound and vibration?

Sound bouncing is the issue. Carpet is good. Cork is an idea. It is all relative to what else in the room will absorb sound. If you have alot of furniture, drapes, and maybe sound panels, maybe rugs, then wood might be alright. It is judged by how live the room as a whole is.
