Textured walls

I live in AZ and have that southwest light texture on the walls. The high ceilings make decorating the walls without looking cluttered a challenge. I'd like to put up some removable stencils. Will they work on the textured walls? Any other ideas for very large high walls?

By removable stencils, do you mean decals? Or paintable stencils? I doubt if decals will hold for very long if the walls have too much texture.

Can you paint? I have two ideas for tall walls using paint. One would be to paint an eight foot tall area a deeper color than the high portion, and then add a chair rail where the two colors meet. This should make the walls look more reasonable. You could even go as high as 10 feet.

Another will take some time and patience, but if you're a talented painter (or can hire one) you could do an ombre effect on the wall, the lowest portion being the darkest color and lightening the color as you go up the wall. You'll have to blend the colors as they meet to avoid it looking like stripes but I think it would be very interesting.

The removable vinyl decals won't stick to a textured wall.
What about a triptych painting or a large metal wall sculpture? Or you could hang a large quilt/ rug/ tapestry.
