Not sure what to do about fireplace! Paint it??

Would love some input on my fireplace dilemma. I purchased a flat screen to go above the fireplace but would need to have it "framed" in so no brick would be showing above the mantel. Concerned that it may look outdated below the mantel but I also don't want a sea of white. Thoughts??? Thanks!

How about a darker brick red color for the fireplace below? Would be a nice pop of color without sticking out too much and add some interest.

Brick can be stained as well as painted. You can search discussions to find directions---basically involves sponging on very thinned down paint to change the color.

Hi Mary Wakefield, Marie here.
Paint it - gives you more options with your lovely sitting area - nice furniture and detailing by
the way... I've attached two photos. They are of the exact same fireplace - two different looks to explain my point. Keep it simple, keep it neutral when it comes to large built-in features. Lends itself to many more changes in the future, without too much hassle.

What a pretty room! I would suggest the application of custom millwork to cover the brick above the mantle to create a panel for your TV screen. Your brick is quite attractive and coordinates nicely with your planked floors.

For simplicity's sake, you could paint the brick black above the mantel, then the tv would blend instead of standing out.

First off, I LOVE your room! The chair fabric is gorgeous. I will save the picture for our lake house lower level idea book. Second, I agree with painting the brick either white or an accent color. There isn't so much brick that white would be too overwhelming. Go with your gut. You have amazing taste.

Here's an option that would cover some of it and leave the rest exposed.

decoenthusiaste, I so agree with you. The focal point of the room is the fireplace. Once it is painted white it becomes less a center point but a part of the overall wall, the center is lost. This room is symetrical and needs this to be a clearly defined focal point.

I love the fireplace the way it is, but please remove boat and ny other large objects from the mantel. Pick up a tone from the bricks or mortar for your walls. Your photo seems very yellow (clashing with the bricks) but that may be just the lighting you had.
