I left the painter alone to discover when i returned that he painted the bedroom ceiling the same light taupe as the walls. The ceilings in this house are very low.. Should i have him repaint it white???

I personally like the ceiling painted a color. I think it doesn't make any difference how tall the ceilings are. I actually think it makes the space look larger to have the ceilings and walls the same color since there is no visual break. See these rooms: Guest Bedroom and Strathcona Boys Room, the orpin group, interior design. The boys room had a gloss on the ceiling and I think that makes it more dramatic and might give some weight to a room. So would recommend a gloss on the ceiling. Flat finish for the ceiling and optimally matte for the walls - since it is washable, doesn't reflect light and doesn't show small wall imperfections

Jennlehr...don't let anyone else's thoughts on how your bedroom should be painted sway you. Paint it the way you want it. You have to live with it!

White does make a ceiling look higher, especialy if it is in a matte or semi-gloss finish.

Years ago ceilings were painted the same color as walls. That went out of vogue and ceilings were painted white. Now it is fashionable again to paint the ceiling and walls the same color. The truth o fthe matter is do what you prefer.

Having said all that I would have the ceiling painted white if I were attempting to recreate the inspiration room.

I hope you will post updated pictures wehn you finish the room!

well i know it takes a few days for the paint to cure and settle in to its color. i just dont want it to feel closed in. since the ceilings are soo soo low. thats my biggest obstacle in this house. there is tons of natural light but no ceiling height. (unusally low)

Whatever finish you like. Remember it is your room :-) I think eggshell would be perfect, but dove wing may be a shade too dark. Compare it with the color you have already used on the walls.

Oh...and the paint color is what it is going to be once it has dried.

I usually halve the wall color for the ceiling...less tint, but cohesive.

It is a personal choice...nothing wrong with having a painted ceiling. It sometimes makes the room seem larger because there isn't a break with color and then a white ceiling. Do you like it?
