Love this floor. Anyone know how they did it?

Residential Resurrections
Looks like a wood floor with alternating stained squares.. I'd use a 1lb cut of dewaxed shellac as conditioner, dye whole floor with lighter color, 2# cut of shellac over that, dry, mask with frog tape, make glaze coat of darker stain using a alkyd glaze base, a satin paint and some Penetrol in a 4:1:1 ratio to start . Overcoat with 2-3 coats of a top quality oil based polyurethane ( glaze base http://www.benjaminmoore.com/bmpsweb/portals/bmps.portal;jsessionid=hJC1NWvYch9CLT6hv6PKTCQC7pKYvKWRyL6lW3qFgdTwJYT64tsn!970549583?_nfpb=true&_windowLabel=contentrenderer_1_3&contentrenderer_1_3_actionOverride=%2Fbm%2Fcms%2FContentRenderer%2FrenderContent&contentrenderer_1_3cnp=public_site%2Farticles%2Fproduct_articles%2Fpa_int_faux_decorative_finishes&contentrenderer_1_3np=productcatalog%2Fproduct_pages%2Fpaint%2Fprd_409&_pageLabel=fh_findproducts )
