Help with kitchen layout

After doing initial demo for our kitchen, we are having issues picking a layout. I have always wanted an island that doubles as a breakfast bar/eating space but it looks like it might be a tight squeeze. My other issue is the distance of both the island option or peninsula option from the rest of the kitchen. 7 and 8 ft seem to create this huge box in the middle of the kitchen. Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks in advance!

I like the island design better. The peninsula forces all traffic to one side.

Why can you move the island closer to the sink? What if it were narrower?

Personally I would make a L-shaped layout instead and give up a bit of counter space by the fridge, but moving the island closer to the sink would make the kitchen more useable.
