Window Molding Or Not?
November 25, 2012 in Design Dilemma
I'm wondering if I should put molding around all the windows in my house. I could save a little by eliminating it but I don't want to make any mistakes. There will be 3.25" molding around all the doors and 5.25" baseboard. The contractor says it's important to at least put molding around the nest of windows in the great room, and I'm in agreement. What about the rest of the house?

It really depends on a number of factors whether to have moldings or not. The biggest is whether the house to to have a more traditional feel or a more modern look. The modern look is generally associated with no moldings.

If you put moulding around one set of windows, you should continue it through the home. In my opinion, it is worth the extra cost.

Repeat the 3.25" molding throughout your home. You'll be glad you did! Good luck!

Paul, if you can afford crown, go for it. It will definitely add value to your home. If you can't afford every room, the most important rooms in this order are: kitchen/dining, master bedroom/bath, living space.
