How Deep is the Counter / Overhang on the island?

How much room do you recommend as the bare "minimum", what do you consider "ideal", and what specific overhand depth are we looking at in this photo (where the bar stools are located on the island).

min. of 18" (this photo) and ideally 22"

how wide is the island itself and then how wide is the over hang. Also what is the length of the island. My kitchen is more long than wide. I think the max width of my island can be 25". Please adivse to how long and wide you recommend.

Over hangs of more than 12 inches needs support so the over hang in the picture looks like 15-18 inches.

jkaila: standard base cabinets are 24 in deep so you would have no overhang. Or if you want seating at the island, some cabinet manufacturers have reduce depth options where you can reduce your base cabinets down to 12 or 15 inches and then have a 10-12 inch over hang.
