Mudroom lockers

We are trying to decide between lockers vs open space for bench and bookies with some cubbies above ... Our issue we don't have a lot of space so while we prefer lockers/ divided space, we are worried there is not a lot of room. Thoughts?

you should definitely do lockers keeping things nice and organized (the purpose of a mudroom), each person will have their own space and you can make the seating/bench as wide as it needs to be so you will have plenty of room

Lockers or any form of individual closed storage will keep the place from looking like a lost and found bin. Each person can have their individual storage space and you will still have room to put your boots on.

Consider having compartments for each family member if you worry about clearance behind locker doors.

If you have small kids, it's easier for them to access open spaces. Most kids have a hard time understanding that things don't belong on the floor. I like Dytecture's idea, which is a happy compromise. It helps kids or adults in a hurry to still feel organized without fussing with a locker to open and close. Hope that helps. Charmean Neithart

I had three kids and the one thing I know for sure is that if they can cram something into a space they will. I believe that lockers will look neater, but open spaces may force them to keep their things clean and organized. Be sure to include hooks for coats and backpacks and insist on the "three rule" - no more than three items in each space.
