Lighting help for upcoming kitchen renovation.
JenniferNovember 26, 2012
We are going to be renovating the main floor of our 1/2 duplex. The wall between the kitchen and living/dining will be removed. My question is: should the lights over what will then be the island (once wall's gone) be a version of the dining light fixture since the 2 spaces are pretty close or is that too 'matchy-matchy'? Thanks! Sorry, I'm trying to upload pic and floor plan but doesn't seem to work.

the dont need to match as long as the compliment each other. Are you thinking pendants? You can add a POP of color there too since they will be small

Thanks. I am thinking pendants. This is the dining room pendant and it comes in a much smaller, more cylindrical shape that could be used over the island but might be too much of a good thing!

I agree with Red Rock that you don't need to match the other lights. And in fact I would prefer that you didn't. The small pendant lighting is going away and what we're using a lot of now is one or two larger pendants, depending on the size of the island. I like the ones below to go with your dining room chandelier. However, I don't know what wattage they have, so be sure to check that out.

I would not match, I would compliment so you don't take the focus off of the uniqueness of the main fixture

Thanks Carolyn - you've both confirmed what my gut was telling me! And the the mercury pendant was in my idea book already as I have a couple of mercury glass accessories.
