How much space did you need to accommodate the gym equipment?

It depends on the amount of equipment you want to put into your space, and if you will have surrounding supporting athletic equipment around it.

As a rule of thumb - get your dimensions of the equipment and then add at least 24"-36" clear space to the sides to access the equipment. This will vary by the equipment.

Here's an ideabook to give you more home gym design advice.
