How are the shelves attached to the wall and how thick is the wood?

The shelves are free floating. The carpenters used long lag bolts - they cut off the heads of the bolts, inserted them into the wall, drilled holes in the 2" shelves, put epoxy in those holes and slid the boards onto the lag bolts. The shelves sit about 1/2 inch off the wall. Hope that helps!
